Toddler Group

Our Toddler Group is held from 9.45am (please note the slightly later start time of 10am during the summer term) to 11.45 on Friday mornings at St. Georges Church Hall, corner of Cranley Gardens and Park Road, N10 3AH. It is a drop-in group so no need to book/reserve a place. The group is extremely relaxed and informal. It’s quite big, usually between 20 and 40 children (aged 0 – 4yrs). There are loads of toys, a soft play area for babies, and an activities area with drawing materials, playdough, jigsaws and/or paints.

The entrance fees are £2 for the first child, plus 50p for each sibling over 6 months. Tea/coffee/squash and biscuits are included.

!!! PLEASE NOTE We run the group on a members-only basis but if you’re not a member of Haringey Families, you can join at the group itself. The entrance fee for non members until they join is £3.50 for the first child plus 50p for each sibling over 6 months.

Magazine exchange If you have any magazines you’ve finished with, rather than throw them away why not bring them along and swap them with others. Ask at the group for more details.

Volunteers

There are three main jobs of a volunteer and you can sign up to do one, two, or all three of them:

• Set up – arrive around 9.15 am to get the toys out of the cupboard, set them out, organise tables and chairs, switch on the lights, ensure that everything is running smoothly in the kitchen, turn on the heaters if needed
• Manning the desk – take entry fees, check volunteers are available the following week, provide information about Haringey Families and give out membership forms as needed. There are memberships forms and sample newsletters in the Toddler Group folder
• Tidying up – get the toys and equipment back into the cupboard – this needs at least two people, sweep the floor, check everything is put away in the kitchen, turn off the heaters, turn off the lights

How often do I need to volunteer? The more volunteers we have, the less we need you. Would you think about signing up for once a month, for at least one of the duties detailed above? Even once during the term? This group can only continue with volunteers’ help. Several of our current volunteers are leaving/about to have babies, so we are in real need of your help.

Are there any benefits to volunteering? The immediate benefit is that the group still meets each week! In addition, volunteers do not pay to enter on the week they are volunteering. Also, if you come at the start your children have the run of the hall and toys before everyone else arrives.
